I was pretty sad while sketching one day, and realized that what I was feeling was very internalized- like whatever I was feeling was not shown externally. I thought the whole idea of a calm exterior while being upset was kinda... cool? So I wanted to draw it, and that's how this painting was born. I actually haven't painted people using acrylics so this was a very interesting experience. I really wanted to try doing a few things purely for aesthetic, so I made one of her eyes a literal flower (it grows on cypress trees and represents despair!) and went overboard with the blush. I genuinely like the way the blush looks and I'm pretty happy with it overall. I also wanted to use earthy colors to go along with the whole flower thing so I made the background green and her shirt brown.
